the thames at hammersmith

The bend of the River Thames at Hammersmith afforded some of the best sunsets in London without having to be high up. I used to work in a building that was right on the bend, north side, with a fantastic river terrace bar that became home for a few years. Shame the rest of the building was mice & rat infected shit-hole and probably the worst environment you could wish in terms of IT infrastructure, which at the time I was employed to manage. So I always blamed my IT misgivings to the condition of the building though my colleagues got wise to who was really to blame sooner rather than later. However, it would be safe to say that working at that place really was life-changing, for me. And some of it in a good way…

Most of the pictures were taken with my much-missed Nikon D700 and even more-missed Zeiss Distagon 28mm f2 lens, which always managed to produce a dreamy look (even if the images were crap). There’s me bigging up the view from the river terrace bar, the only picture taken from that vantage point is the image with two canoeists. Or maybe kayakers? I have no idea (or interest). Let’s just call them ‘boat people’ and move on from there. All the other pictures were taken on Lower Mall – a lovely footpath right by the river infested with more boat people (rowers) and drunken idiots who only visited the pubs on Lower Mall when the sun came out. Very London.
